About the Film

Gringo Trails is a feature-length documentary that raises urgent questions about how we travel, and what our impact is around the world.

The film follows the well-worn travelers’ route known as the ‘gringo trail’ through Latin America and beyond to Africa and Asia, revealing the complex relationships between colliding cultures: host countries hungry for financial security and the tourists who provide it in their quest for authentic experiences.  Through the stories of travelers and locals, and with stunning footage from Bolivia, Thailand, Mali, and Bhutan, Gringo Trails explores the dramatic impact of tourism on the developing world over the past three decades, and offers examples of sustainable alternatives.

Full Moon Party, Koh Pha-Ngan, Thailand
